FLOP
Despite some controversy, we can all agree on a few things from Sunday. The Giants are still good. With Aaron Rodgers at the helm, the Packers are looking good. Brett Favre showed why the Pack didn’t want him back. Yes, the ref blew the call, but the fact remains that neither Denver or San Diego could play any defense. The Browns are not as good as they were a year ago. The Steelers are the top dog in the AFC, but Denver gets some votes too. The Colts are not what they were, yet. The Patriots play the easiest schedule in the NFL this year and could still miss the playoffs. The Ravens and Texans got screwed out of their bye week because of a hurricane. Darren Sproles can play. Brandon Marshall is back in full force too. The Cowboys and Eagles play tonight, one team will keep pace with the Giants and the other will be looking up at the top for a while in this tightly packed division.
Now for the real issue. Fantasy football owners everywhere are annoyed at a few things. First of all, there was a big swing in fantasy points at the end of the San Diego-Denver game for all the owners who played Eddie Royal. It was by far Brandon Marshall’s day, but for those who started Royal despite Marshall’s return, bad officiating may have saved the day.
For those of you with Derrek Anderson on your squad, I’m sorry. Find someone else in a hurry, because if D.A. keeps playing like this it will almost certainly send him to the Browns’ bench. Anderson was a top Qb in the league last year, but can’t seem to get anything going thins year. Some of that blame needs to fall on his receivers. In last nights game I saw more dropped passes than catches. Granted, conditions weren’t the best for throwing the ball, but when you are playing from behind your big playmakers need to step up, and Cleveland’s playmakers failed to do so.
Another bust for fantasy owners yesterday was Ryan Grant. Traditional scoring leagues had projected Grant would rack up over twenty points. He scored two points. If Grant’s hamstring injury keeps lingering owners may want to consider adding Brandon Jackson as a handcuff. If Grant ends up on the bench for a few games Kregg Lumpkin could be a better handcuff than Jackson though. Lumpkin is a rookie, but he has better playmaking ability than Jackson.
This season is going to be a rough one for fantasy owners everywhere. Teams that have been good in the recent past are now struggling and unknown players are scoring piles of points, but not consistently enough to start in your fantasy line up. My guess is that the cream will rise to the top soon enough. I’m with you all in hoping that the fantasy game gains some of it’s old predictability before my team is too far out to make a run at the championship.
